What is Covid?
COVID-19 is a respiratory illness primarily transmitted through respiratory droplets, aerosols, and direct contact with infected individuals. The virus can cause various symptoms, such as:
- A high fever or chills
- A new, persistent cough (coughing frequently for over an hour or having three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours)
- A sore throat
- A loss or change in the sense of smell or taste
While most people experience initial symptoms that resolve within a few days or weeks, with full recovery often within 12 weeks, some individuals may develop more severe illness and experience prolonged symptoms beyond this period.
Who is eligible for the NHS COVID vaccination?
The NHS should contact you if you're eligible for a seasonal COVID-19 vaccine.
You may be offered a seasonal vaccine if you are:
- are aged 65 years or over (you need to be 65 years old by 31 March 2025)
- aged 6 months to 64 years old and are at increased risk
- live in a care home for older adults
- a frontline health or social care worker
- aged 16 to 64 years old and are a carer
- aged 12 to 64 years old and live with someone with a weakened immune system
